Although I like the electric toothbrush I use, and it works well, mine like most, are ugly. They're big, chunky, about as streamlined as an 80's mobile.

So I came up with this electric toothbrush design as my approach to the product.

Packaging has always been one of my design interests, especially Japanese packaging. This design is a concept I came up with for a new Japanese beer. I've called it "Private Club Malts", Japanese beers always have interesting naming conventions, so it's a nice challenge.

Here's number 2 for the new year. This one is a New Year Tradition in Japan called an 'Ema'.

This usually small wooden plaque is left hanging at Shinto Shrines adorned with the wishes for the new year of the people who wrote them. Wikipedia Link about Ema (Shinto)

This is my version, with some hopes for the coming year.

As 2010 is rapidly coming to a close I reflect back on my design challenge for 2010. Although I ran out of time, I'm still proud of my total of 127 designs. This challenge has helped me to grow as a designer, and worth every minute I put in.

The big 100! My design for an economy class seat.

Main points of the design:
- Lightweight materials (Carbon Fibre & Aircraft Aluminum Base)
- Large head supports to assist sleeping/privacy; can be adjusted up/down.
- Large winged seat base to support hips, legs.
- Arm rests completely unobtrusive when folded up, and rounded under-surfaces for comfort.

In-Flight tableware concept with folding cup holder to add extra space, and cutlery space included on the tray to save on plastic wrapping. Top left are small volume re-fillable salt & pepper shakers to again save on waste.

Cutlery can be rested lying over edge of tray for easy pick-up and use. The fork and spoon come oriented in the direction of use (especially useful when elbow space is at a premium.

Individual bowls have small handle to aid in being able to be picked it up. Individual grooved wall compartments reduce movement & spillage due to turbulence, while being presented with the main dish being most easily accessible.

Front of tray is tapered down to provide wrist rest and reduce the risk of flipping your tray.

'Transit Hoodie'
This one is an exercise for the Design Aerobics 'on the move' course. It's a travel essential I came up with. My idea is embedding an inflatable membrane into the hood part of a hoodie, making it an instant pillow which can be inflated/deflated discretely through the 2 valves located on the upper chest. Using this you can have an instant pillow which keeps your head and neck supported when needed, while also being comfortable; and while not inflated is not discernible from a regular hoodie.

About time the humble Australian thong was upgraded.
I've used different density rubber to provide support for different parts of the foot, with thicker medium & high density rubber protecting and supporting the arch area.

The separated toe provides improved control and traction, which is further aided by the hexagonal grips placed on the toes, ball and heal sections underneath. The low density rubber strips aid in the thong bending when you walk, and the rubber stopper for the strap next to the big toe is a triangular shape to contour to the natural gap.

The upper is a breathable easy-to-clean coloured layer and slightly textured with a diagonal grip to keep traction with the foot, but not to the point of it being uncomfortable.

Well.. that was my longest explanation of a design to date!
